Speaking on Prime Time with Andy Dosty, the music producer claimed the country owed him an unpaid balance for jingles he produced for Ghana’s Population and Housing Census during the administration of former President John Evans Atta Mills.
He noted that the matter has lingered for years without resolution, leaving him feeling ignored and disrespected despite the professional work he delivered.
“The country still owes me GH¢3,500 for a jingle I produced 16 years ago for the 2009 Population and Housing Census during the administration of former President John Atta Mills. I humbly appeal to President John Mahama to extend to me the same support he offered Obuoba J.A. Adofo.”
The veteran sound engineer emphasised that producing national campaign jingles was not a simple task and required significant technical work and financial investment.
“I used my studio, my equipment, my time, and my knowledge to produce those jingles. It was not free work. It was professional work that required resources,” he stated.
According to him, creatives in Ghana are often treated unfairly when it comes to payment, even when their work is used for major national initiatives.
Fred Kyei Mensah further revealed that the project had reached a stage where the late President John Evans Atta Mills himself was expected to visit his studio for a recording session related to the campaign.
“All I am saying is simple: pay me my money. I did the work and I delivered the jingles. So why is my balance still not paid after all these years?” he questioned.
He stressed that creatives deserve respect and fairness when they provide services for national projects.
