The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor- Ngleshie Amanfro, Felix Akwetey Okle, has inaugurated a refurbished infrastructure at the Bortianor Polyclinic with a charge on staff to adopt a high level of maintenance of the facility.
That, he said, was to ensure that the facility and other logistics at the polyclinic were taken good care of to enable them to last long and serve the purpose for which they were provided through the provision of quality healthcare delivery.
The facility, which was refurbished through the support of the MP of the area, houses the dental unit, eye, ear, nose and throat and other special units.
Farewell
Before the inauguration, which coincided with a farewell ceremony of the medical superintendent of the facility, Dr Philomena Bonsu, the MP had inspected some road projects being expanded and improved upon in the area under the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
He said it was the taxpayer’s money that had gone into the facility and so it was incumbent upon all to ensure that it was kept in good condition for it to last.
“I always insist that maintenance should be one of their key policies.
Because most often we put up such an edifice and we leave it just like that and it goes rotten.
But I have charged them to make sure that they take good care of whatever we have done for them,” he emphasised.
Quality health, he said, with good facilities and environment, is what the support he provided.
He said the facility, which was built some years ago, was fast deteriorating and thus the steps taken to get it renovated.
Management
For her part, Dr Bonsu thanked the MP for coming to the aid of the polyclinic when management reached out to him for support.
“I would like to use this opportunity to thank our MP for coming in to support the facility when we reached out to him that the building was deplorable and we needed to renovate it. He has honoured our request and we are excited about it,” he said.
She said there were challenges with leakages and that all of that had been addressed and expressed the hope that staff using the facility would be motivated to deliver the quality of care patients needed.
Assurance
The medical superintendent, who also commended the MP, assured him that the maintenance culture at the polyclinic would be strengthened.
“We would ensure that we keep it well and that maintenance culture would be strengthened, and then the next time we come, we would see better and much more improved services in the facilities,” he emphasised.
Earlier, Mr Okle had inaugurated a hall named after Dr Bonsu.
