Felix Kwakye Ofosu has indicated that contractors who received mobilisation payments under the government’s Agenda 111 hospital project but failed to undertake the corresponding work will face legal action.
His comment follows the audit report presented by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, which revealed that 35 contractors under the Agenda 111 initiative failed to mobilise or deliver work matching the advance payments they received.
According to the government’s arrears audit, the contractors collectively received about US$7.9 million as mobilisation advances, yet either failed to begin work or delivered work that did not correspond with the funds released.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the findings highlight serious irregularities in the implementation of the project.
He emphasised the importance of conducting proper investigations before initiating legal proceedings, explaining that the government worked closely with the Auditor-General’s Department and private auditing firms to verify the claims.
According to him, the collaborative audit process uncovered several cases of financial misconduct and irregularities.
“The crimes have been identified, and people will be taken to court to punish them for these offences immediately,” he said.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu added that some individuals and companies implicated in the findings are already subject to ongoing legal action.
