The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced that the $18 million Terminal 2 remodelling project at Accra International Airport is expected to be completed by July 2026.

According to him, the project is part of broader efforts to boost operational efficiency and position Ghana’s airport among the top facilities in Africa.

The Transport Minister made this known during an inspection tour of the facility with airline operators on Wednesday, 3 March 2026.

“We are here today to inspect the works the contractors are doing to remodel Terminal 2, enabling it to serve both Ghanaians and international passengers.

We have toured the facility with all the airlines and can see the progress. We hope that by July, the contractors will complete the project on schedule, allowing Terminal 2 to fully play its dual role as both a domestic and an international terminal,” he said.

The Minister further disclosed that the project will include changes to airport signage, with the current inscription of Kotoka International Airport expected to be replaced with “Accra International Airport” upon completion of the works.

“By the time we are done in July, the name will be replaced with Accra International Airport,” he added.

Mr Nikpe also warned that the government will not hesitate to revoke the licences of individuals or groups operating at the Private Jet Terminal who fail to renew their operational permits.

The $18 million renovation project is designed to enable the terminal to handle both domestic and international flights, a move aimed at reducing passenger congestion currently being experienced at Terminal 3.
