The Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, says the board will soon distribute about 27,000 motorised spraying machines and 89,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) items to cocoa farmers across the country to support their farming activities.
He made the announcement during a meeting with cocoa farmers from Abuakwa North and Fanteakwa South Districts in the Eastern Region on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo said the intervention forms part of COCOBOD’s efforts to continue supporting cocoa farmers despite the challenges facing the sector.
According to him, the board will also continue to provide free fertiliser and insecticides to farmers to help improve cocoa production.
He noted that the newly procured spraying machines and protective equipment will help farmers carry out their work safely and more efficiently.
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo further revealed that the government is considering expanding educational support for the children of cocoa farmers.
He explained that because of the Free Senior High School policy, the scholarship scheme that previously supported secondary education for cocoa farmers’ children will be redesigned to support them at the tertiary level.
He added that a committee has already been set up to work on the details of the programme, and the modalities will soon be announced to the public.
