Prisoners have been advised to reform, renew their minds and reorganise themselves with the intention of repenting of what sent them to prison to fit into the larger society when they are released.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, gave the advice during a working visit to the Akuse Prisons in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region, together with some officials of the district assembly.

‘’Your being here is not the end of your life. Sometimes God can decide to hide you here for a reason.

There are some of you who made little, little things and small, small mistakes in life that brought you into the prison here.

Very soon, some of you will be released back into the wider society, but the question is, are you reformed, repentant, and have you renewed your minds not to repeat what brought you here?

“Blaming yourself as individuals for what brought you into prison is one thing and repenting and renewing your mind to avoid such avoidable mistakes in life is another.

To me, as much as you blamed yourself for such a mistake, it has already happened and therefore live that aside and plan your lives better than you came”, Mr Dordoe advised.

Ongoing projects

Mr Dordoe, who engaged with both prisoners and management during separate meetings, donated GH₵10,000 to support ongoing development projects at the prison.

At the end of his visit, he refreshed the 161 male prisoners.

The management of the prison, led by the second-in-command, Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Issifu Abdallah, enumerated several challenges, including officers’ accommodation, the need for an infirmary to deliver quality health services to prisoners among others.

AMEST

In another development, the DCE, Mr Dordoe, seized the opportunity to be in Akuse and visited the Akuse Methodist Senior High Technical School (AMEST), his alma mater.

At a durbar with the students, staff, and the entire school community, he admonished the students to take their studies seriously to achieve their dreams in life.

As part of his visit, Mr Dordoe was accompanied by some of his classmates, during which he presented GH₵10,000 to assist the administration with ongoing development projects.

The Headmistress, Christiana Frimpong, on behalf of the school, thanked Mr Dordoe and his classmates for the memorable visit, which she said would encourage the students to aspire to higher goals.
