Ghanaian journalist Rebecca Ekpe has launched a new mentorship initiative aimed at nurturing young journalists and digital content creators across the country.
The Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Programme for Journalists and Content Creators – Internship and Mentorship Season 2026 was unveiled in Accra as part of activities marking International Women’s Day.
The initiative seeks to equip emerging media practitioners with practical training, professional mentorship and internship opportunities to strengthen their skills in journalism, multimedia storytelling and ethical media practice.
Speaking at the launch, Ekpe, who is the current Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), emphasised the critical role of mentorship in building a strong and responsible media industry, particularly at a time when digital technology is rapidly transforming the way stories are produced and consumed.
“Journalism is evolving rapidly in the digital age, and it is important that experienced professionals create pathways for the next generation to learn, grow and uphold the values of credible and responsible storytelling,” she said in a press release on the initiative.
According to the organisers, the programme will bring together experienced journalists, editors, broadcasters and digital media practitioners who will mentor young participants through hands-on learning, professional guidance and industry exposure.
Participants are expected to benefit from structured mentorship sessions, newsroom exposure, training in digital content creation and opportunities to build professional networks within the media industry.
Ekpe noted that the initiative also aims to encourage greater participation of young women in journalism and digital storytelling, in line with broader efforts to promote gender equality in the media sector.
“The goal is not only to train young journalists, but to raise a generation of responsible storytellers who will inform society, amplify voices and contribute to national development,” she added.
Organisers say the mentorship programme will run throughout the year, featuring internships, training sessions and professional development activities designed to help young journalists and digital creators thrive in modern media practice.
The Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Programme aims to strengthen the future of journalism in Ghana by equipping aspiring storytellers with the skills, ethical grounding and confidence required to navigate the evolving media landscape.
