At the launch of the 11th edition and draw, Madina was revealed as hosts, and thus becomes the 4th Zongo community to host the prestigious tournament since its inception in 2015.
The Wembley Park at Kotobabi, the Fadama Astro Turf and the famous Kawokudi Park in Nima, have hosted the past 10 editions, and Madina will now host 15 other Zongo communities, with mouthwatering fixtures on offer, following the draw held at the launch of the tournament in Accra.
Sabon Zongo, who have participated in every edition of the competition, will open the tournament with Nsawam, while the hosts, Madina, will play the 3rd match of the day against Shukura, as they start another quest to lift the trophy again, having won it once.
In other notable fixtures, record three time winners, Ashaiman, will face Anyaa Zongo in match 8, while defending champions, Adabraka, will open their defence of the trophy against Ashale Botwe.
At the launch of the 11th edition, Dr. Abubakar Marzuq, who represented the National Chief Imam, conveyed Sheikh Sharubutu’s goodwill message to all participating communities, as well as youth of Zongo community.
The Chief Imam urged those participating and the fans to continue to uphold the values of the competition, which seeks to bring the youth together through football, to promote peace, unity and discipline.
The Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup, which is held annually at the end of Ramadan, is named in honour of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
Several Zongo communities across the country have participated in the tournament but so far, only six communities: Ashaiman, Kasoa, Nima, Mamobi, Madina and Adabraka have won it before.
Will any of these communities win it again, or they will be a new champion?
