Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes, hosted by Lois Shola Adeyemi, the dancer said he had to pray and reflect deeply before fully committing to the craft because of strong pressure from his parents to pursue a more conventional career.
“Dancing was more of a calling, and I had to pray about it because there was a lot of pressure from my dad and mum when I started dancing,” Baye said during the interview on Monday, March 16.
According to him, his love for entertainment was evident from a young age, even before dance became professional.
“It wasn’t professional then, but they saw that I loved anything entertainment: singing, rapping, and dancing. I could even imitate artists, so it felt like this was what I wanted to do,” he added.
Baye explained that while he wanted to study General Arts in school, his mother encouraged him to try science instead.
“My mum was like, ‘Try science, and if you don’t like it the first term, we will change,’” he recounted.
He eventually pursued science and later enrolled in a nursing training college, though he admitted the path proved more challenging than he had expected.
Despite his demanding studies, Baye said his passion for dance never faded. After completing his licensing examinations, he made a decisive move to speak with his parents about his future.
“I told my parents I’m not stopping nursing, but I want to take a break and focus on dancing,” he said, describing the decision as a bold step toward following the calling he believes was meant for him.
