Team Ghana have stepped up preparations ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier B, which the country will host at the Achimota Cricket Oval from March 24 to 29, 2026.

The highly anticipated tournament will feature six nations — Ghana, Tanzania, Eswatini, Malawi, St Helena and Seychelles — battling in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the Regional Qualifier, the next crucial step on the road to the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Participating teams are expected to arrive in Accra on March 22, with March 23 reserved for training sessions before the competition officially begins the following day.

Preparations have intensified following the inauguration of a seven-member Local Organising Committee (LOC), chaired by Nii Okai Evans-Anfom, by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, last month.

As the national team fine-tunes their readiness for the five-day competition, the LOC has also been working around the clock to ensure the tournament is delivered to international standards.

Other members of the LOC include Nihal Abbas, Erasmus Douglas Djarbeng, Evelyn Amerley Nuno-Amarteifio, Horen Quashigah, Samuel Ayer and Gifty Fianu.

Speaking to journalists after a national team training session at the Achimota Cricket Oval last week, the LOC Chairman, Evans-Anfom, expressed confidence in Ghana’s readiness to host a successful tournament that would also promote tourism and strengthen ties across the continent.

“We are well placed to host a memorable tournament that not only demonstrates fierce competition but also promotes tourism and African friendship,” Mr Evans-Anfom said.

“We’ve gathered resources for the team’s training and preparations, and we are confident of giving qualification our best shot,” he added.

For the players, the focus remains firmly on delivering results on home soil.

The Head Coach, Rajinder Parsad, and the captain, Obed Harvey, both emphasised the significance of the tournament to Ghana’s cricket ambitions, while calling on fans to rally behind the team.

“We’ve been preparing for a long time, so we’re ready to make Ghana proud,” Captain Harvey said.

“We are excited to be playing at home. We are familiar with the facilities, and we hope Ghanaians will come out to support the team throughout the tournament.”
