Ghanaian rapper and nurse Cannella has shared insights into her music career, industry challenges and personal values during an appearance on the Fresh Juice show with Mauvie the Motivator.
Speaking on the programme, the versatile rapper said she remains open to working with creative professionals who believe in her vision. Cannella, who currently styles herself, noted that collaboration is important as she continues to build her brand.
“ I’m actually open to working with a lot of people once they believe in the dream “.
She stressed that she has no intention of compromising her values in pursuit of success.
“I wouldn’t want someone to feel like the key to my success has to be from them,” she said, addressing rumours that female rappers often feel pressured to sleep with powerful industry figures to secure collaborations.
Cannella, who writes her own material, explained that much of her music focuses on themes such as body positivity, believing in one’s dreams and challenging societal expectations. Her song “Rebel” reflects what she describes as her fearless approach to both music and life.
The rapper also revealed that she is aiming for international recognition, with ambitions of winning major honours including the Grammys and AFRIMA Awards.
When asked about her inspirations, Cannella mentioned Ghanaian rapper Eno Barony alongside international stars Stefflon Don, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj.
“ Oh my God, I love her so much. She’s such a beautiful person” .
She also spoke about personal presentation and the importance of dressing appropriately, noting that confidence should not be misunderstood because of how a woman dresses.
During the interview, Cannella performed lines from one of her songs.
“ We need time for my drama. I want to make hair for my mama. The way things know they move, she figure I be lazy.

She also teased an upcoming single titled “Hold Body”, which promotes body positivity.
Cannella says she is determined to make a lasting mark on the Ghanaian rap scene and beyond.
