The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has warned it will resume its nationwide strike if the government fails to address concerns over its salary structure and conditions of service within 14 days.
The association suspended its nearly three-week industrial action on Tuesday, March 17, after government assured leadership that the issues raised by the union would be reviewed.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Midday News, the Public Relations Officer of CLOGSAG, Edmund Acquaye, said the decision to call off the strike was taken after the union’s leadership assessed the government’s assurance and directed members to return to work.
According to him, all members have been asked to resume duties on Tuesday, March 24, while the government works to address the concerns raised by the union.
“This action we have taken is based on the assurance given by government that within 14 days they are going to take a critical look at our issues with the salary structure and also our conditions of service,” he explained.
CLOGSAG leadership says the decision reflects the association’s commitment to maintaining a healthy employer-employee relationship built on trust and good faith.
The union is also expected to engage the National Labour Commission as part of efforts to resolve the impasse.
However, the association has cautioned that it will not hesitate to take further action if the outcome of the government’s review does not address their concerns.
“After the 14 days, we will assess the situation, and if our issues remain unresolved, we will decide our next line of action,” the PRO stated.
CLOGSAG’s strike, which lasted close to three weeks, disrupted services across several public sector institutions before its suspension.
