Crashed Aircraft Not GAF’s- Deputy Defence Minister

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has stated that the chopper that crashed in Tema on Monday does not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

According to him, it is a privately owned microlight aircraft.

“We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces,” he wrote in a Facebook post while commiserating with the bereaved families.

 

According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the aircraft that crashed on Monday in Tema Community 1 was flying from Ho to Accra, estimated to arrive at Accra at 1520 Z.

It noted that the flight was a micro-light aircraft with registration number 9GADV

With two persons aboard, the last contact with the aircraft on radio was 1418.

All occupants of the aircraft died in the crash recorded on March 16, 2026.

It comes seven months after a GAF helicopter crashed on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

It also claimed the lives of Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General, NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manden Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
