Green for Change Ghana (GCG), an environmental non-governmental organisation committed to working with communities and initiating programmes that benefit both communities and the environment, has called for stronger collaboration with development partners after winning the Outstanding Service in Empowering Communities for Climate Adaptation Award at the 2026 Ghana Development Awards held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in the Greater Accra Region.
The organisation was recognised for its work in helping communities adapt to climate change through restoration, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource management programmes.
The Ghana Development Awards celebrate institutions that are contributing to national development, and this year’s theme focused on excellence in nation-building and economic recovery.
Executive Director John Balankoo Sumbo, speaking after receiving the award, said the recognition will inspire the organisation to expand its work.
“We are grateful for this honour. It recognises the work we are doing to support vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change, especially in the northern ecological zone of Ghana,” he said.
He explained that Green for Change Ghana works with rural communities to restore degraded lands, promote clean energy, improve livelihoods, and strengthen resilience to climate shocks.
“This award is dedicated to our beneficiaries who face the direct impact of climate change every day, as well as to our staff, partners, and donors who support our mission,” he stated.
Mr Sumbo used the opportunity to invite donor agencies and institutions to partner with the organisation.
“We appeal to donor agencies and partners to collaborate with us to scale up our operations. From renewable energy to regenerative agriculture, nature-based solutions, WASH, and conflict management, we are open for collaboration to improve livelihoods and protect the planet.”
He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and environmental protection across Ghana.
The award is seen as a major recognition of the role local organisations play in addressing climate change and supporting community resilience.
