The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Charles Dwamena, has officially declared his intention to contest to be party General Secretary, pledging to rebuild the internal structures, strengthen discipline, and restore confidence among its members.
Speaking during a live broadcast across traditional and social media platforms, Dr Dwamena highlighted his record of financial stewardship as a party executive, indicating that when he assumed office as National Treasurer, the party’s internally generated funds (IGF) from membership dues stood at just GH¢100 per month.
He said through improved systems, accountability measures, and enhanced engagement with party members nationwide and across the diaspora, the membership dues revenue had grown to a current daily average of GH¢30,000.
Dr Dwamena told supporters that the achievement demonstrated the power of discipline, transparency, and strong institutional leadership, and argued that a similar approach would be applied across the party when elected as the next General Secretary.
He emphasised that his campaign was anchored on the theme: “Let’s Rebuild to Restore the Love”, insisting that there was the need for all party members to work towards restoring the love Ghanaians had for the NPP.
He admitted that the party was faced with challenges that required unity, strong leadership, and grassroots engagement to restore public confidence and to reconnect with members.
He added that executives at all levels, whether elected or appointed, would be supported and never marginalised under his leadership when given the opportunity.
Vision
Dr Dwamena further pledged to ensure that all major party decisions under his leadership would be research-driven, reflecting his strong research background.
He also indicated that as General Secretary, welfare proposals that had already been tabled but yet to be implemented, including the Group Accident Insurance Scheme, Political Mentorship Programme, Business Incubation Fund, and Human Resource Empowerment Programme, would be prioritised.
He further announced plans to introduce a pension scheme for polling station executives and to strengthen grassroots structures to ensure that every polling station, electoral area, constituency, and regional office functioned efficiently.
Looking to the future, Dr Dwamena proposed the construction of a modern National Headquarters complex, which would house the Patriotic Institute, administrative offices, conference facilities, and a museum to preserve the Party’s heritage, while also generating revenue to support party operations.
He reiterated his commitment to working closely with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and all stakeholders to prepare the party for the 2028 general elections.
He concluded the broadcast by calling for unity among members, urging them to work collectively to rebuild the party, restore discipline, and strengthen the love and trust that had historically defined the NPP.
