Ghana has welcomed home 54 brave soldiers from the 48 Engineer Regiment on their return from their successful humanitarian mission to Jamaica.
An event was held on March 17 to officially receive them home by President John Dramani Mahama and the military high command.
In a Facebook post, the President expressed satisfaction with their contribution to the rebuilding mission in Jamaica following their deployment in December in the aftermath of the devastation by Hurricane Melissa.
“I commend each member of this contingent for their professionalism, dedication, and successful execution of this mission. You have made Ghana proud!”
He stated that the mission was rooted in shared Afro-Caribbean history and Pan-African solidarity.
“This non-combat, humanitarian mission demonstrates the agility, skill, and compassion of our Armed Forces. Beyond defending our borders, they stand ready to extend a helping hand to nations in need.”
The 54-member team worked tirelessly alongside the Jamaica Defence Force and US partners to rebuild over 26 homes and public facilities.
