Sunyani Central Prison has established a regimental band to promote rehabilitation, build skills, and create income-generating opportunities under the Think Prisons 360 Degrees agenda.
The initiative, supported through a GH¢11,000 loan facility, saw the procurement of key musical instruments including one bass drum, three snare drums and two tenor drums , two trumpets, and a trombone to form the new band.
According to the Regional Commander for Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions, DDP Thompson Otsyokpo, the project aligns with the wealth creation pillar of the Think Prisons 360 Degrees initiative spearheaded by the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq).
The band is expected to perform at official prison functions and selected public events, generating revenue to support welfare and operational activities.
It will also provide valuable musical training for both officers and inmates, promoting discipline, teamwork, and personal development.
Importantly, participating inmates will gain practical skills that can serve as a source of livelihood after their release, aiding their successful reintegration into society.
This initiative highlights the Service’s commitment to innovative rehabilitation and sustainable development under the Think Prisons 360 Degrees initiative.
