Ghana and the Kyrgyz Republic have taken steps to strengthen bilateral relations following an official visit by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, aimed at expanding cooperation across key sectors.
The visit marked a significant milestone in efforts to build a strategic partnership between the two countries, with both sides identifying priority areas for collaboration, particularly in the extractive industry.
Discussions highlighted the shared status of Ghana and Kyrgyzstan as leading gold producers in their respective regions, presenting opportunities for knowledge exchange and joint initiatives in the gold sector.
As part of the outcomes, both countries signed a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, a move expected to facilitate official engagements and deepen institutional cooperation.
Officials also indicated that consultations are ongoing to extend similar arrangements to holders of ordinary passports.
In addition, the two nations agreed to establish formal political consultations to ensure sustained dialogue and structured cooperation on bilateral and multilateral issues.
The strengthened partnership is expected to unlock new opportunities in trade, investment, and broader economic collaboration, reinforcing efforts to drive growth and development.
The visit underscores a renewed commitment by both countries to deepen South–South cooperation, anchored on mutual respect, shared interests, and a forward-looking vision for stronger diplomatic and economic ties.
