The National Chief Imam has urged Ghanaians to uphold peace, unity and humility as essential values for national development.
Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu made the call through an interpreter when a delegation from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), led by Commissioner-General Mr Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, paid a courtesy call on him.
The visit was to show respect, seek prayers and present donations to support the Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan.
The GRA presented 100 bags of rice, 20 cartons of oil, 20 cartons of mackerel, 30 cartons of bottled water and GH¢20,000.
The Chief Imam said all human beings shared a common origin and should live in harmony, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
He urged Ghanaians to demonstrate kindness, good conduct and mutual respect, stressing that true pride should be based on righteousness and obedience to God rather than background.
The Chief Imam expressed appreciation for the gesture and prayed for Allah’s blessings, strength and success for the leadership and staff of the Authority.
Mr. Sarpong said the GRA required divine guidance to achieve its revenue targets and effectively execute its mandate.
He said the visit was to strengthen relations with religious leaders and seek spiritual support for the Authority’s operations.
Mr. Sarpong said the GRA, beyond making donations during Ramadan, sought prayers for wisdom, protection and the ability to meet or exceed its revenue targets.
He said the Authority recognised the role of faith and unity in national development and remained committed to executing its mandate in line with Government expectations.
Mr. Sarpong announced that the GRA had acknowledged its internal Muslim community and approved the appointment of an Imam and an assistant, subject to final selection and blessings.
He said the selection process was ongoing and that the chosen individuals would be presented to the Chief Imam for prayers to enable them to serve effectively.
