The Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has criticised the NDC government, saying it has failed Ghanaians on many important issues, including electricity, jobs for young people, and honesty in government.
Speaking on the AM Show on March 19, he said, “My brother, Sammy Gyamfi, sat on live TV and told us that the meters were former vice president Bawumia’s meters and that they were running like a goat! And today, the same meters are still here under your watch. You say you want to fix this country; you promise honesty, but this is exactly what I’m talking about, your honesty is in question.”
He continued, pointing to the government’s widely publicised job creation promises:
“You told Ghanaians about a 1-3-3 jobs formula. Then you went before the media, in Parliament, and even in front of the Speaker, claiming that one million jobs were created in the first quarter alone. But the statistics tell a completely different story. This is mendacity, this is dishonesty. This is not what the youth of this country were promised,” Kamal Deen said.
Mr Abdulai also highlighted the growing frustration among young Ghanaians seeking opportunities in the security services.
“Over 500,000 Ghanaian youth applied to join our security services because there are no opportunities elsewhere. And the response you give them? ‘If we employ all of you, how many will be thieves and how many will be police?’ This is from a national chairman of the NDC! So they want thieves and police at the same time?”
Mr Abdulai argued that these missteps, combined with the unfulfilled promises, could have serious political consequences:
“If an election were held today, the NDC would lose. Look at your performance over the past year. Ghanaians have deep regrets. They feel let down by unkept promises, by poor handling of electricity meters, by failure to create real jobs, and by a lack of honesty in governance.
