A non-profit organisation, Ghana Medical Relief (GMR) is finalising plans to organizer a medical outreach in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.
A team of medical professionals, administrators and project managers of the organizations undertook a two-day inspection exercise in preparation for their 2026 medical outreach program in Ghana.
The mission promises to be GMR’s biggest medical outreach in Ghana in its eight years of operation, targeting 16,000 beneficiaries within five days at no charge. The beneficiaries will be screened for various health conditions, treated and referred, if need.
The team assessed various locations and facilities selected for the mission and held meetings with key stakeholders including the District Chief Executive, District Directors of Health, Ghana Police Service, Ambulance Service, and the National Health Insurance Officers.
The Lead of the GMR fact finding delegation Dr. Samuel Owusu, praised the local organizing team for the intense preparation and lauded their commitment towards a successful mission.
He communicated the team’s decision to have the outreach done at two locations in the district, Tsito – Awudome and Dzolo Gbogame to ensure an equitable access to the free healthcare services that will be rendered.
He added that provisions have been made to provide pediatrics, urology, dentistry, obstetrics & gynecology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, psychiatry service, health education and CPR training.
“A 40-footer container loaded with drugs, equipment and other medical supplies have been shipped in for the outreach and we are hopeful of administering free medical care to citizens of the Ho West District”, he said.
The Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah expressed his appreciation to the group for choosing to undertake “this important” outreach in his jurisdiction.
He lauded them for traveling from the US and Canada at their own expense just to have firsthand information on preparations made so far towards the 2026 exercise in Ho West.
He, therefore, pledged his logistical support towards the success of the 2026 mission.
The Ho West District Chief Executive, Profer Francis Dusey who accompanied the GMR team through the district expressed his satisfaction at the enthusiasm exhibited.
Other members of the GMR team included Bella Appiah (Secretary), Samuel Brobbey (Project Manager) Kojo Kakraba (Ghana Liaison), Emma Owusu (Volunteer) and Vera Bandoh (Volunteer).
The Ghana Medical Relief organization is made up of seasoned professionals drawn from various health and allied fields with the aim to providing health services to communities in rural Ghana annually.
The group based in North America also relies on volunteers from Ghana in providing quality health services during their missions.
