National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has raised concerns over growing indiscipline among the youth, warning that it poses a serious threat to the country’s future leadership.
In a speech read on his behalf during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations at Independence Square in Accra on Friday, March 20, the revered Islamic leader questioned the direction in which many young people are headed.
“In recent times, we have seen this growing trend of indiscipline amongst the youth, but these young people are our leaders tomorrow. Some of them will replace you when you are no more. What kind of students and future leaders are we building?” he asked.
The Chief Imam also highlighted the rising incidence of drug abuse, particularly within sections of the Muslim community, describing it as a painful and urgent reality.
“The rising trend of drug abuse is a matter of concern. Our youth are being destroyed through drug business and drug addiction. We are losing our young people to drugs. It is a painful experience and a painful reality,” he lamented.
Despite the situation, Sheikh Sharubutu expressed his readiness to work with government to address the challenge.
“If there is anything we can do together, I am prepared to join you in any programme of such importance,” he assured.
