The Head Teacher of Mafi Seva D/A Basic School in the Volta Region, Richard Benjamin Agordo, has called on education authorities to urgently assign more teachers to the school, warning that a critical shortage of staff is affecting effective teaching and learning.

Mr Agordo disclosed that the entire school is currently managed by only two teachers, including himself, who are responsible for instructing pupils from kindergarten through to junior high school.

He described the situation as untenable and detrimental to quality education.

“I want to appeal to the education directorates, particularly Central Tongu and North Tongu, to assist us with more teachers. At the moment, we have only two teachers, including myself, handling classes from kindergarten to JHS,” he said in an interview with Channel One TV.

His appeal comes at a time when the school has recently benefited from the construction of a new classroom block, significantly improving the learning environment for pupils who previously studied under unsafe conditions.

“This new facility will help us improve educational outcomes. Without proper infrastructure, teaching becomes extremely difficult,” he noted.

Despite the infrastructure improvement, Mr Agordo stressed that the shortage of teaching staff remains a major obstacle. He urged authorities to act swiftly to address the situation, emphasising that adequate staffing is essential to improving academic performance and ensuring effective learning.
