The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to clamp down on users of 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers from Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The exercise will be undertaken in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement, the Authority stated that the use of DV plates is clearly spelt out under Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
It, therefore, noted that owners of vehicles that do not fall under any of the categories provided for under L.I. 2180 are required to register those vehicles before they can be used on the roads.
It noted that all operational offices commenced the registration of vehicles for the 2026 year on January 2, while urging all vehicle owners who are currently using 2025 DV plates or expired DP stickers to comply with the Road Traffic laws to avoid legal consequences.
It will be recalled that last year, following challenges the Authority faced in preparing for the rollout of new vehicle license plates, the Authority announced the extended use of 2025 DV plates and DP stickers until the 2026 DV plates were released.
Subsequently, on February 4, 2026, the Authority issued a press release announcing the issuance of 2026 DV plates to motor traders, fleet owners, and licensed trade plate dealers who had applied following a media release inviting applications for allocations in November 2025.
The release of the 2026 DV plates in February 2026 automatically rendered the continuous use of 2025 DV plates and expired DP stickers illegal.
