Julius Neequaye Kotey, Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has announced plans to establish a DVLA office in Ketu North to improve access to services in the area.
He made the announcement at the award ceremony for the second cohort of beneficiaries of the Ketu North Scholars Award under the Edem Agbana Scholarship Programme, held at Dzodze on Sunday.
Mr Kotey commended Mr Edem Agbana for his persistent advocacy for development in the constituency, particularly his consistent push for the establishment of a DVLA office.
“Edem has been relentless in engaging me on the need for a DVLA office here. He is always in my office advocating for opportunities for his people,” he said.
He assured that the proposed office would not only enhance service delivery but also create employment opportunities for residents, emphasising that staff to be recruited would be drawn from within the constituency.
“We are not just bringing a DVLA office to Ketu North; we will ensure that the people who will work there are from this constituency,” he stated.
Mr Kotey also underscored the importance of education in bridging socio-economic inequalities, stressing that initiatives aimed at supporting education deserved broad backing.
“When people invest in education, we must support them in their efforts to help others grow,” he noted.
In support of the scholarship programme, he donated GH¢50,000, describing the initiative as a non-partisan effort focused on youth empowerment and community development.
“This initiative is not about politics. It is about the growth of the youth, the development of the community, and the future of individuals,” he added.
He urged the youth to support leaders who demonstrate genuine commitment to community progress and encouraged stakeholders to sustain the scholarship initiative to expand opportunities for young people in the area.
Residents of Ketu North, particularly drivers, have long yearned for the establishment of a DVLA office in the area to spare them the inconvenience of travelling to Denu in the Ketu South Municipality to access services.
The announcement by Mr Kotey has therefore brought renewed hope to the people who expect improved access to services and reduced travel burden once the facility is established.
