The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Edem Kpotosu, has cautioned drivers against overspeeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to him, these are the factors identified as leading causes of accidents; hence, drivers must eschew these practices to ensure safety on the roads.
“It is not how fast you drive, but how safely you arrive,”, he said to drivers who had benefited from a free health screening exercise organised by his office at the Ho main station to commemorate his birthday.
The drivers together with some traders and travellers were screened for eye conditions and diabetes, and had their vitals checked during the exercise to help them with details of the state of their health.
Mr. Kpotosu said the exercise was crucial to the health needs of the commercial drivers who hardly take time to access healthcare.
He said an unhealthy driver could pose a danger on the road, which may lead to accidents.
“The screening exercise was to put the transport workers on alert about their health conditions and curb accidents caused by related health conditions”, he added.
He advised passengers to be punctual when traveling “so, that you do not give the driver pressure to speed and meet your timeline of arrival.”
There were free renewal and registration onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.
