Victims of last year’s major fire incident at Adum Blue Light Arena are planning to stage a demonstration, giving their leaders a one-week ultimatum to account for donations received after the incident.
According to traders whose shops were destroyed in the fire, their leaders have failed to account for the support received from several individuals and organisations in their moment of distress.
As part of activities marking one year since the incident, some traders alleged a lack of transparency in the management of the funds, insisting that the substantial donations have not translated into meaningful development.
“Most of the affected shops were rebuilt by the owners themselves. Aside from that, only drainage works have been done. There is no real development here, and when it rains, the situation becomes unbearable. So where is the money?” they questioned.
They are staging a demonstration dubbed “Y’adi Yɛ Sika,” to wit we our money has been abused.
Organiser of the affected traders at Blue Light, Kwaku Nsiah, accused the leadership of failing to be transparent and called for immediate accountability.
“We are giving them a one-week ultimatum to render a full account to us because we are suffering. There is no support and no visible development here,” he lamented.
Some traders further noted that, despite a full year passing since the incident, the only visible project has been the construction of drains, raising concerns about the use of the remaining funds.
