The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has firmly rejected reports suggesting that the contractor for the Pwalugu Dam project was not paid, describing such claims as false and a misrepresentation of his remarks before Parliament.
In a statement issued for immediate release, Dr Jinapor clarified that a viral publication circulating on social media had wrongly attributed comments to him during his recent appearance before the Government Assurances Committee.
He stressed that at no point did he indicate that the contractor had gone unpaid.
According to the Minister, his submission to the Committee—broadcast live across multiple media platforms—clearly stated that the contractor had in fact received payment but failed to carry out the required work.
He further disclosed that the contractor subsequently absconded after receiving the funds.
“I explicitly stated that the contractor had been paid but absconded with the funds without executing any corresponding work. The matter has since been referred to the Attorney-General for advice and possible prosecution,” he explained.
Dr Jinapor added that in response to further questions from the Committee Chairman, he reiterated that the contractor had not been paid for any work done, reinforcing the position that payments made were not matched by execution on the ground.
He expressed concern over what he described as a deliberate distortion of facts, warning that such misinformation undermines public trust and distorts discourse on critical national issues.
He therefore urged the public to disregard the publication and encouraged media practitioners to verify information from credible and official sources.
The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that all matters concerning the project are being handled with the highest level of integrity.
