The Secretary of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), Dominic Buah, has assured the public that excavators and weapons seized during anti-illegal mining operations are being securely kept and accounted for.

Speaking at the NAIMOS Editors’ Forum and Quarterly Press Briefing on Wednesday, March 25, Mr. Buah stated that all seized excavators remain intact and are being held at undisclosed secure locations pending further directives from government.

He explained that the Ministry and government authorities are currently reviewing the situation and will determine the final course of action regarding the seized equipment.

“All excavators seized by NAIMOS are intact,” he said, adding that the machines are being safely stored at locations which would only be disclosed when necessary.

Mr Buah further disclosed that weapons retrieved during operations are also being preserved securely.

According to him, the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons has written to the Secretariat through the Ministry, outlining the process for documenting and disposing of the weapons.

He emphasised that proper procedures are being followed to ensure that all seized items are handled in accordance with established regulations and in coordination with relevant state institutions.

He reiterated their commitment to tackling illegal mining while ensuring that due process is followed in the handling of equipment and materials confiscated during enforcement operations.
