NILEVER Ghana PLC, through its oral care brand Pepsodent, has unveiled a nationwide recycling initiative that converts used toothpaste tubes into functional school furniture for underserved communities.
The programme addresses the twin challenges of plastic waste and inadequate learning infrastructure in rural schools.
The initiative has already witnessed recycled tubes being transformed into tables and chairs.
Donation
Recently, the Unilever Oral Care Category Team, donated the first batch of furniture to Bethel Presbyterian School in Madina, Accra.
Representatives from the Ghana Education Service’s School Health Education Programme (SHEP) unit in the Madina district, alongside school authorities, received the donation.
According to Unilever, the project builds on Pepsodent’s two decades of oral health advocacy in Ghana, extending its focus from preventive care to environmental sustainability and educational support.
The initiative was also designed to create a circular link between daily brushing habits and tangible community impact.
“Every tube collected goes beyond recycling — it represents hope, care, and opportunity for a child in a rural school,” a statement from the company said.
Campaign
To scale the effort, Pepsodent has called on households, schools, retailers, and communities across the country to collect used toothpaste tubes and deposit them in designated recycling bins. Locations of the bins would be announced later.
The recycling drive aligns with Unilever Ghana’s broader sustainability agenda and complements the Pepsodent “Do the 2” campaign, which promotes brushing twice daily for better oral hygiene.
