The Municipal Chief Executive for Nkwanta South, Joseph Antwi Awal, has vowed to bring to justice the perpetrators of a recent deadly attack that claimed the lives of five residents in the municipality.

The victims, identified as 77-year-old Nana Achinake Iddrisu, 24-year-old Fusheni Achinake, and 17-year-old Nuhu Achinake, were reportedly attacked while working on their farm and burnt beyond recognition.

In a separate incident, two more individuals were burnt, and another sustained serious cutlass wounds, while two houses were destroyed by fire.

“We will arrest them. The perpetrators of these heinous acts will face the full force of the law,” Mr. Antwi Awal said.

The MCE explained that the attacks occurred about six kilometers from the main township in remote farming communities, highlighting the volatile nature of the area, where such incidents can escalate rapidly.

Security has since been intensified, with a joint police and military force deployed from Accra to assist local law enforcement in tracking down the attackers. Authorities are conducting patrols, manhunts, and checkpoints to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further violence.

The deadly incidents have caused panic in the municipality, prompting some residents to flee their homes and leading to the closure of several schools. Despite this, Mr. Antwi Awal reassured the public that not all areas of Nkwanta are affected, with most parts of the municipality continuing normal activities.

“We have engaged chiefs, youth leaders, and opinion leaders to maintain peace. But we will not relent until the perpetrators are apprehended,” he added.

Authorities have also urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information through mobile phones and social media, which has contributed to fear and unnecessary displacement in some communities.
