More than 30 motor riders delivering services through ride-hailing service provider, Bolt Ghana, have undergone a day’s training in road safety in Accra.

They are the first batch of 300 top-performing motorbike riders on the application to undergo the training, which featured topics such as regulatory alignment, rider welfare, helmet safety policy, among others.

The session brought together riders and company leadership to strengthen understanding around defensive riding practices, and emergency support tools

It was on the theme, “Steering Toward Safety: Empowering the Two-Wheel Revolution”.

The session concluded with a safety pledge and the handover of DOT-certified helmets and reflective vests to participating riders.

Rationale

A Senior General Manager for Bolt West Africa, Teddy Appa Dankyi, said the training formed part of efforts to ensure a full Class A licensing compliance, education on road signage and speed limits as well as training on in-app SOS and dispute resolution tools designed to enhance rider and passenger safety.

“As the two-wheel category continues to grow, safety remains our highest priority.”

“This initiative reflects our commitment to working collaboratively with riders and regulators to build a structured and responsible mobility ecosystem ahead of time,” he said.

He expressed Bolt’s commitment to continuous investment in training, technology, and regulatory engagement to ensure that growth in the motorbike category was matched by strengthened safety standards.

Timely

One of the participating riders, Mireku Samuel Oteng, described the session as timely, saying it would help riders on the app to better understand how to work better to serve clients who use the application.

“On the road, we face a lot of challenges, from difficult road conditions to sometimes being disrespected by customers.

It’s not always easy, but safety must always come first,” he said.

He encouraged his fellow riders to follow road safety rules and avoid speeding at all times.

“I also want to commend Bolt for bringing us together to listen to our concerns and support us.”

The safety gear provided, like the helmets and reflective vests, will go a long way in protecting us,” he added.
