Considering traditional leaders are instrumental in shaping the development path of their communities, the Chief of Toase, Nana Yim Awere Ababio II, has instructed sub-chiefs and queenmothers within his jurisdiction to prioritise initiatives that drive community development.
He emphasised that their focus should not be limited to accumulating personal wealth at the expense of their communities’ progress.
Nana Yim Awere Ababio II, who is also Otumfuo Brempong, articulated these remarks at the ceremony to officially commission the Yim Awere Ababio Dwabrem, a modern community centre intended to benefit the people of Toase.
Addressing the gathering, he noted that true leadership involves uplifting and developing the people in the communities under their care.
“All the chiefs, queens, and elders residing on lands under the jurisdiction of the Yim Awere stools should always prioritise the development of their communities and safeguard the heritage left behind by their ancestors.”
He underscored that traditional leaders have a profound responsibility to create a lasting and meaningful legacy that will not only serve but also be cherished, built upon, and continue to inspire future generations, thereby ensuring the continued progress and prosperity of their communities.
Nana Yim Awere Ababio II also cautioned traditional leaders who are engaging in illegal mining activities, also known as ‘Galamsey’.
He urged them to desist from such activities, which are causing damage to water sources, forests, and land. He highlighted the harmful effects, including health problems, food insecurity in the coming years, potential water scarcity, and other consequences.
“To those ‘Odikro’ who are secretly involved in illegal mining, I have given you a warning to cease these activities because you are permitting these illegal miners to continue ravaging the land. A time will come when there won’t be sufficient land for farming, and we will struggle to access food.”
He appealed to residents of Toase to maintain proper sanitation practices, stressing that they should refrain from littering the environment with waste.
The occasion was graced by Toasehemaa Nana Amonu Gyamfua Serwaa and several distinguished traditional leaders, including the Tepamanhene, the Otumfuo Mamensenhene, the Nkawie Kumaahene and his hemaa, as well as the Atwima Kwanwomahene, among others.
As the Guest of Honour, the Paramount Chief of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem II, commended the Toasehene for his tireless and outstanding efforts in spearheading development initiatives within the Toase community.
He further stated that the ‘Yim Awere Ababio Dwabrem’ is a monumental project of immense significance, bringing honour not only to the people of Toase, but also reflecting positively on the entire Asanteman community, showcasing their shared values and collective achievements.
According to him, in just seven years of the Toasehene’s reign, his leadership has been remarkably impactful, driving meaningful development and progress across Toase.
“In the past, chiefs were served by their people, but times have changed, and now it’s the chief who serves the people. I commend my fellow chief, Nana Yim Awere Ababio, for undertaking this remarkable project, which is truly commendable.”
Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem II encouraged the people to maintain their support for their chief, stating that this would enable him to focus on his duties with a clear mind and facilitate further development in the area.
