The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that the recruitment of new and qualified lecturers, researchers and administrative staff into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is a matter of necessity that the government must address.

The Chancellor, for the umpteenth time, on March 29, 2026, called on the government to act in resolving the staffing deficit battering the institution at the 59th Congregation.

“In my previous addresses, I have made several clarion calls for financial clearance to enable the university to recruit the staff it urgently requires to sustain its core mandate of teaching, research and survey. I therefore respectfully wish to renew this appeal and urge the government, as a matter of necessity, to grant the required clearance.”

His Majesty underscored the urgency of the dire situation necessitated by the inflating population of students.

“Granting financial clearance will enable the university to strengthen its human resource capacity, improve the staff-student ratio and further enhance the quality of teaching and research across our academic programmes.”

His Majesty noted that adequate staffing was essential for sustaining the institution’s known standards and advancing the shared national aspiration of building a globally competitive institution that contributes meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
