Ghana coach Otto Addo is not confident about finding a suitable right back for the Black Stars before the World Cup starts.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday ahead of the international friendly with Germany, Otto Addo said We have two more months to look (for a new right back). I do not think we will find (a right back before the World Cup.)’’
Fans would find Otto Addo’s comments puzzling, considering the presence of a new right back, Marvin Senaya, who made his debut on Friday.
Regardless, Otto Addo said the existing options in the current Black Stars pool will be observed.
‘‘I think on our database, and also myself in my head, I know all the Ghanaian players who are possible (right back options) who have the strength and quality. We will look at their form and their club, but also the little training we do here.’’
The right back position has been a problem spot for the Black Stars after continuously inconsistent displays by Alidu Seidu. The problem has been further exacerbated by Tariq Lamptey’s long-term injury.
In their absence, Nordsjælland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has deputized for Ghana. However, his last two matches have been characterized by one error that led to a goal (against Austria) and a penalty against South Korea.
