Nana Agradaa is questioning the very purpose of prison after her recent release, insisting the system does little to reform those who pass through it.
Speaking to her congregation at Heaven Way Champion International Ministry on March 29, 2026, the evangelist, known in private life as Patricia Asiamah, reflected on her time in custody and dismissed the notion that incarceration brings personal change.
She recalled the moment her legal troubles seemed to reach a breaking point, when she was handed a 15-year sentence. In her telling, the ruling felt final, leaving her shaken as she exited the courtroom and faced a barrage of questions from bloggers, with only a plea for prayers on her lips.
“Prison doesn’t change a person, it only increases your boldness. I said ‘tawfiakwa’ when the judge sentenced me to 15 years in prison. When bloggers asked me, ‘Mama Pat, what do you have to say about your sentencing?’ I only told them to pray for me,” Nana Agradaa stated.
Agradaa walked free on March 3, 2026, after serving nine months behind bars, benefiting from Ghana’s remission guidelines, which allow for reduced time based on good behaviour.
Her conviction stems from a July 3, 2025, ruling by an Accra Circuit Court, which found her guilty on multiple counts tied to a money-doubling scheme she promoted during church services at her ministry in Weija. According to prosecutors, she took money from congregants with assurances of multiplying it, promises that failed and triggered complaints.
She was initially sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for defrauding by false pretence and engaging in charlatanic advertisement, but that punishment did not stand.
On February 5, 2026, the Amasaman High Court affirmed the conviction but ruled that the sentence was excessive, reducing it to 12 months and imposing a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to about GH¢2,400.
