The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has held the first quarter meeting of its Gender Equity Committee for 2026, reaffirming its commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening the implementation of affirmative action policies across the country.
The Committee, which plays a key role in shaping policy direction and promoting gender mainstreaming, deliberated on a number of strategic issues aimed at improving coordination and effectiveness.
Central to discussions was the finalisation and adoption of Terms of Reference for its sub-committees, a move expected to clarify responsibilities and enhance operational efficiency.
Members also reviewed institution-specific gender policies to ensure alignment with national priorities, while sharing best practices to deepen gender responsiveness within various public institutions.
A major highlight of the meeting was the commissioning of the Gender Equity Committee Secretariat, established to provide administrative and technical support.
The Secretariat is expected to improve coordination, strengthen monitoring and evaluation, and enhance reporting systems for gender-related programmes and policies.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, commended members for their dedication and urged them to adopt a results-driven approach.
She emphasised the importance of translating policy commitments into measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry to reinforce institutional frameworks and accelerate progress towards gender equity and inclusive national development.
