A new political party, the Action Alliance Party (AAP), has been launched with a strong resolve to challenge the dominance of Ghana’s two major political parties.
It promises to offer a people-centred leadership alternative focused on youth empowerment, job creation, and anti-corruption.
Addressing the party members at the launch in Wa, Mr Namuru Tahiru, the party’s founder, said AAP was born because Ghana deserved a political platform that put the people first.
He added that the party was founded on the ideology of inclusivity, accountability, and service with a mission to support and promote inclusive development.
He expressed the hope that AAP would “break the duopoly” of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general election to address the deficiencies in the country’s political leadership, including the fight against corruption.
“It is the Action Alliance Party that can prosecute every corrupt issue in Ghana. We are bold enough to come out to prosecute corruption and create jobs”, he explained.
The party’s symbol, a tractor, reflects its strong focus on agriculture as a pathway to economic transformation and employment creation.
“AAP places farmers at the centre of its economic agenda because a thriving agricultural sector means a thriving Ghana”, Mr Tahiru said.
He outlined plans to improve irrigation, reduce input costs, and expand market access as part of efforts to improve the agricultural sector.
He therefore called for unity among party members and effective membership mobilisation across the country, while appealing to Ghanaians across political divides to join the movement.
“To those who feel disillusioned… AAP welcomes you with open hands… together, we will build a movement that transcends political divides and brings real change”, Mr Tahiru said.
The launch of the AAP also served as the party’s maiden congress, at which national executives were elected, led by Nazir Abdul-Rahaman Darlington, a business mogul from the Upper East Region, to secure the party’s victory in the 2028 presidential election.
Mr Daniel Kwatia, the Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), supervised the election, while Mr Poleenaa Shaibu, an Independent Commissioner of Oath, administered the oaths of office and secrecy to the newly elected executives.
Mr Darlington, the National Chairperson of the party, reiterated the party’s vision to transform governance and restore hope among citizens.
“The Action Alliance Party was born from a burning desire to rescue our nation from poor leadership, economic hardship, youth unemployment, and social injustice,” he said.
He explained that the party was founded on three principles: leadership must serve the people, not exploit them, every citizen deserves opportunity, dignity, and security, and the future of the nation depends on bold action today.
