The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has decided to deploy more staff to the various Private Vehicle Testing Stations (PVTS) across the country to ensure compliance with operational standards and regulatory requirements.

This is in response to concerns over the increasing number of unroadworthy and rickety vehicles on Ghana’s roads, which raises questions about the processes under which such vehicles are certified as roadworthy.

During an engagement with operators of PVTS outlets nationwide, the Chief Executive of DVLA, Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey, outlined a series of reforms being introduced to improve the inspection and certification process.

He emphasised that the new measures will enable the Authority to monitor, in real time, vehicles that are inspected and issued with roadworthy certificates across all PVTS.

Mr Kotey further cautioned that the Authority will not hesitate to apply strict sanctions against any PVTS that fails to meet the required standards, including the closure of non-compliant stations.

The Authority affirmed that PVTS operators remain key strategic partners, playing a critical role in testing vehicles for the issuance of roadworthy certificates.
