The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is calling for the prosecution of a former procurement head at the Defence Ministry, Frank Oliver Kpodo, over a GH¢4.8 million vehicle procurement deal.
This follows a demand by Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor for Mr Kpodo’s immediate interdiction, citing the alleged use of falsified documents in an attempted procurement of vehicles intended for monitoring the 2024 general elections.
The Auditor-General had earlier disallowed store receipt vouchers valued at GH¢4.8 million during a special audit of government commitments and payables, noting that the vehicles in question were not supplied.
Appearing before the PAC on March 31, Mr Kpodo stated that the vehicles linked to the flagged vouchers were initially delivered, challenging the Auditor-General’s findings. He claimed the vehicles were later removed due to concerns over payment.
However, this account contradicts the special audit report, which indicated that the vehicles were never supplied and raised the possibility of prosecution.
Committee members expressed concern over the inconsistencies in Mr Kpodo’s testimony.
Mr Dafeamekpor, a ranking member of the committee, rejected the explanation and reiterated his call for Mr Kpodo’s interdiction.
“You personalised the transactions, so they became your personal responsibility. How many vehicles were involved? If you cannot tell us where the vehicles are, at least tell us how many there were,” he said.
“For me, my demand is that the Ministry should interdict this man. He should be interdicted.”
