Society for Assistance of Orphans and the Disabled (SAFOAD), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), in collaboration with a Turkish organisation, HUDAI, has donated food items to some orphans and persons with disabilities in Greater Accra.
The items included assorted foodstuffs, sugar, milk, tea bags and some fabrics. The items were meant to facilitate fasting during the Ramadan period.
The event took place at the residence of the Executive Director of SAFOAD, Hajj Abubakar Yakubu Batalima, at Niboi Town in Accra, where the beneficiaries, who were accompanied by their parents, gathered.
The gesture was also aimed at easing the burden of the vulnerable families during the Ramadan period.
The outreach forms part of SAFOAD’s broader efforts to promote social inclusion and provide assistance to disadvantaged groups in society.
Commitment
Hajj Batalima said the gesture formed part of the organisation’s commitment to supporting the poor, including orphans and persons with disabilities in society.
He said Ramadan was a period of compassion, sacrifice and generosity.
Hajj Batalima further urged well-meaning individuals and organisations to extend support to the less privileged in society.
“As part of the humanitarian spirit of Ramadan, we deemed it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable in our community to ease their hardship,” he added.
Commendation
Hajj Batalima commended HUDAI for partnering SAFOAD to provide the assorted food items and support for the outreach.
He also called on other charitable organisations and philanthropists to emulate the gesture to help improve the living conditions of vulnerable people in communities across the country.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the organisers for the timely intervention.
