Eight suspected highway robbers arrested in Ashanti North, one killed in police operation

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested eight suspected highway robbers in connection with a robbery that occurred on March 26, 2026, along the Mampong-Ejura Highway.

The incident involved six armed men attacking a minibus carrying 14 passengers at Aframso Bridge, robbing them of cash and mobile phones.

Acting on intelligence, a special operations team raided Amakwa Dadey Hotel on March 30, 2026, where the suspects were reportedly sharing proceeds from the robbery.

During the operation, one suspect, Ibrahim Iddrisu, attempted to attack a police officer with a cutlass and seize the officer’s weapon. He was shot by police and later died while receiving treatment at Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital.

The eight suspects in custody are: Amidu Sajo (42), Ibrahim Sule (36), Karim Hadu (40), Malik Jibrilla (38), Yusifa Asakoko (23), Umaru Issifu (20), Damani Yamba (36), and Ibrahim Iddrisu (43, deceased).

Police recovered GHC 15,717 in cash, three cutlasses, two AK-47 live rounds, mobile phones, a talisman, and other items from the scene.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and secure remaining weapons in the region.

Authorities are urging residents and road users to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to help curb highway robberies.
