The campaign team of Dr Charles Dwamena has reaffirmed his commitment to discipline and accountability, stressing that he will not shield wrongdoing as he contests for the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a statement signed by the campaign’s Communications Director, Yaw Yeboah, the team emphasised a renewed focus on rebuilding the party, restoring public trust and engaging younger voters ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Dr Dwamena, the party’s National Treasurer, is seeking election at the NPP’s national delegates conference slated for September this year.

Smear allegations

The statement was issued in response to what the team described as “baseless allegations” by Mr Solomon Kusi Appiah, who had claimed to have served as Communications Director during Dr Dwamena’s National Treasurer campaign.

It further alleged that Mr Appiah was later attached to the Treasury team but, together with another staff member, was dismissed in 2023 for allegedly extorting money from party members under the pretext of securing non-existent opportunities.

“Mr Appiah admitted wrongdoing, apologised and pleaded for leniency,” the statement said.

Second chance

It said despite the incident, Dr Dwamena supported Mr Appiah’s possible appointment as National Coordinator of the party’s Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Secretariat, “citing the need to offer second chances.”

However, it claimed Mr Appiah resumed similar conduct prior to his confirmation, leading to his disqualification and eventual replacement by Dr Kwasi Kyei, after which all ties with Dr Dwamena’s office were severed.

The team further alleged that after Dr Dwamena declared his candidacy on March 18, 2026, Mr Appiah sought to rejoin the campaign but was turned down and subsequently recruited by a rival camp to “denigrate” him.

Issue-based campaign

The statement accused some opponents of sponsoring individuals, including dismissed staff and social media influencers, to spread negative narratives.

Describing such actions as “political immaturity and desperation,” the campaign cautioned rival camps to desist and focus on their track records.

It reiterated its commitment to an issue-based campaign anchored on “track record, vision and party unity,” while warning that it would expose persons behind any smear efforts.
