Speaking to GraphicOnline, Mr Antwi said the AI-generated misinformation emerged following recent communal violence that left seven people dead.
He said it had been discovered that an individual is using AI to misinform the people by exploiting the mastheads of well-known newspapers, including the Daily Graphic, to spread fake news about developments in the area.
He emphasised that the community simply desires peace and tranquillity to go about their daily activities.
In response to the violence, a combined security operation has led to the arrest of six suspects. According to the Oti Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), John Nchor, the suspects are currently in police custody pending further investigations.
“Two of the suspects were arrested on March 29 and the remaining four on March 31,” Mr Nchor said.
He also urged the public to remain calm and assist law enforcement by providing information relevant to the investigation, while cautioning against spreading misinformation that could trigger further violence.
