A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called for unity within the Nkrumahist tradition.

He said fragmentation had weakened the Nkrumahist front, confused supporters and reduced its political impact.

He said such a unified front would help to reclaim the legacy, restore and renew the vision of its founder, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, that once ignited hope across Africa and the Black world.

Working group

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, who is also a former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), made the call at the inauguration of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) National Working Group last Thursday, where he was the special guest of honour.

The working group is expected to steer the process of reorganising the party’s structures across the country and reposition the party towards winning political power.

Return

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed the need for the CPP to return to what he described as true Nkrumahism, which was grounded in social justice, self-reliance, Pan-Africanism and scientific socialism.

That philosophy, he said, called for a society where the wealth of the nation benefited all citizens and required the building of an independent, productive and people-centred economy.

He said the party must therefore articulate policies that address unemployment, inequality, education, healthcare and industrialisation, and must be the voice of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said the reorganisation process must involve reconciliation, honest dialogue and mutual respect, with the collective interest placed above individual ambition.

Grassroots rebuilding

He urged the party to rebuild its structures from the grass roots as the strength of the CPP came from its deep connection with farmers, workers, traders and the youth.

He, therefore, urged the party to return to that model by building a movement that engaged with the daily struggles of the people and ensured that every branch became active and relevant.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe further urged the party to invest in youth leadership and political education.

He said young people must be provided with structured political education rooted in Nkrumahist thought so that they could understand the ideology, history and mission of the party.

He said the CPP was formed not only to win elections but also to transform Ghana, industrialise the country and contribute to African unity.

He said the party must present itself as a credible alternative with ideas, vision and the courage to challenge the status quo.
