The Lebanese Community in Ghana has expanded its annual scholarship package for University of Ghana Law School students, adding more beneficiaries as part of efforts to support access to legal education.
The increase follows an appeal from the School’s leadership for a higher quota to assist more deserving students.
This year, six students from Level 200, four from Level 300 and another four from Level 400 received scholarships at a brief ceremony attended by senior university officials and members of the Lebanese Community.
Chargé d’Affaires at the Lebanese Embassy, Mr. Mohamad Baalbaky, said the gesture reflects Lebanon’s long-standing belief in the centrality of the rule of law to democratic stability.
“Laws hold our societies together, promote equality, freedom and justice. Without it, no meaningful progress can be achieved,” he said, adding that Lebanon views the rule of law as a tool for social transformation.
He reaffirmed the Embassy and Community’s commitment to supporting educational cooperation between the two countries and urged the awardees to strive for academic excellence.
“To our brilliant students, congratulations. I urge you to work harder for greater academic and professional success,” he said.
Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Joseph A. Yaro, expressed appreciation to the Lebanese Community for its consistent support and the decision to widen the scholarship coverage. He praised the decade-long partnership between the two institutions, describing it as a model of productive collaboration.
Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Peter A. Atupare, said the initiative has fostered healthy academic competition and eased financial pressure on students and their families. According to him, the scholarship continues to motivate students to remain on the merit-based programme.
A member of the Lebanese Community, Mr. Hisham Younes, congratulated the beneficiaries and assured them of the Community’s ongoing support.
One of the awardees, Nahum Agyepong, thanked the donors and pledged that the beneficiaries would uphold the values and integrity associated with the award.
Now in its 13th year, the Lebanese Community Scholarship has supported over 600 Ghanaian students across various fields, including law, journalism, public relations, film and television, performing arts and language studies.
