The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against narcotics trafficking following the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected drugs in Offinso District.
According to a press statement issued by the police, on March 25, 2026, at 10:13 a.m., a patrol team from the Offinso District intercepted a blue-black Toyota Voxy, registration AS 1747-25, on the outskirts of Offinso Old Town near the Offin River.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 350 compressed slabs of suspected narcotic substances, believed to be Indian hemp, concealed in four white sacks.
Additional items recovered included Ghana Cards, three driver’s licences, a voter’s ID, a DVLA vehicle registration certificate, an iPhone, and cash amounting to GH¢120.
The occupants of the vehicle fled into nearby bush upon spotting the police. Although the suspects initially escaped, the vehicle and all retrieved items were conveyed to Offinso Police Station for further investigation.
An intelligence-led operation subsequently led to the arrest of four individuals on 26 March 2026: Albert Nkrumah (alias Abode3), 21; Francis Owusu (alias Skin), 25; Gyimah Emmanuel (alias Corruption), 24; and Theophilus Amoabeng (alias Kwadwo Amoabeng).
Following an identification parade, Albert Nkrumah and Francis Owusu were confirmed as participants in the incident.
A court order from the Offinso Circuit Court directed the National Identification Authority, the Electoral Commission, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to provide relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
On March 30, 2026, Albert Nkrumah and Francis Owusu were arraigned before the Offinso Circuit Court and remanded in police custody, with a reappearance scheduled for 27 April 2026.
Police investigations have also identified other individuals linked to the crime.
The seized narcotics will be sent to the Forensic Laboratory at CID Headquarters in Accra for analytical examination and reporting.
