Ghanaian artiste Bisa Kdei has underscored the importance of self-belief, creativity, and strategic use of platforms such as soundtracks in shaping successful music careers.
Speaking in an interview on Oseikrom Kwanso on Opemsuo Radio, he reflected on his journey into music, noting that his passion began during his school days while he was studying Architecture.
“My whole life has been music. Even while I was in school studying Architecture, I was also pursuing production and spending a lot of time in the studio,” he said.
He added that although no one in his family is a professional musician, their musical background influenced his path.
“Everyone in my family can sing, but I am the only one who decided to take it up as a career. I learned a lot from my parents and my eldest sister,” he noted.
Bisa Kdei also highlighted the potential of soundtrack music, describing it as an underutilised platform that can help artistes reach wider audiences beyond traditional releases.
“When I got the opportunity to do soundtracks, I saw it as a big platform. I had to make songs that would not only fit the movie but also connect with everyone,” he explained.
He observed that despite its potential, the soundtrack space remains largely overlooked and called on established artistes to invest more in that area to elevate its importance within the industry.
On songwriting, the artiste encouraged musicians to develop confidence in their creative abilities, noting that self-doubt often prevents many from writing their own songs.
“Some people are used to others writing songs for them, but sometimes the issue is that they don’t believe in themselves. Creativity comes from within, and if you believe in what you have, you can impact lives through your music,” he said.
He, however, acknowledged that collaboration remains an important aspect of music production, adding that working with songwriters can enhance creativity and produce quality results.
Bisa Kdei emphasised that with the right mindset and support systems, artistes can fully harness their creativity and make meaningful impact through their music.
