President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Lyon, France, for the One Health Summit, a gathering of world leaders, health ministers and global health experts, which he will be co-chairing with French President, Emanuel Macron.
During the summit, the President is expected to deliver two keynote addresses, the first at a meeting on a Global Health Architecture, co-chaired by President Macron and Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organisation.
The second keynote will open the high-level segment for heads of state and government, where President Mahama will detail Ghana’s commitments and perspectives on global health security.
On arrival in Lyon, President Mahama was welcomed by a group of Ghanaian families living in Lyon, who were excited to come out and meet their president on Easter Monday.
State visit
After the summit, President Mahama will leave Lyon for Paris for a state visit and bilateral meeting with President Macron at the Elysée Palace.
Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening Ghana-France relations, with particular attention to health, education, trade, investment and regional security.
Before the Elysée meeting, the President will be received by Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate, at the Senate House.
One Health Summit
The One Health Summit is being held to coincide with World Health Day, which falls today.
It is being hosted by the French Government as one of the flagship events of the G7 French Presidency.
The Summit has in attendance Heads of State and government, international organisations, scientists, civil society, youth and local actors to advance global action on One Health.
It will highlight the interdependence of human, animal, plant and ecosystem health, and the need for coordinated, science-based approaches to address shared health threats.
It will also showcase the Quadripartite partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN (FAO), the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), as well as the role of the WHO Academy and WHO’s work across country, regional and global levels.
