The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, has chastised the government over attempts to downplay the conversation surrounding the LGBTQ.

It follows comments made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communication to the effect that issues relating to LGBTQ+ rights are not a major priority for Ghanaians.

According to the Minister, the government remains focused on key socio-economic concerns.

Responding in a post on his official Facebook profile, the Presiding Bishop challenged the statement.

“Really? So which Ghanaian is this minister referring to here? In any case, did we miss a poll on this matter?”

He dared the government to come clear on his position.

“If you have softened your stance on the issue, just tell us. Don’t belittle everyone’s intelligence. Please, be serious!”

Acknowledging the relevance of economic and social development, he affirmed that human rights and social inclusion also require attention from government leaders.

According to him, public officials have a responsibility to communicate clearly and responsibly, particularly on issues that affect public trust and generate debate.

He warned that dismissive or ambiguous statements risk creating confusion about government priorities and could undermine confidence in public institutions.
